The Unknown War is an American 20-part series that documents the World War II conflict between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.
Today, SouthFront shares the 20th and final part of the series titled “A Soldier of the Unknown War”.
For the Soviet Union, the victory in World War II had a special meaning. It was a war in which 20 million of its citizens died. Nearly every family in the country had lost one of its members in the fight against the Nazis.
Wherever Soviet soldiers fought, they are remembered. Tens of thousands of known and unknown, they gave their lives, not only in the Soviet Union, but in all of Eastern Europe. 120,000 sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Austria. 600,000 others martyred while liberating Poland. And in the final battle in Berlin, over 100,000 lost their lives in just three weeks.
The memory of these soldiers, who fought for their homeland and the future of the whole world, will forever remain alive.
