The operational-strategic group «Dnepr» has been disbanded. The Pokrovsk-Mirnograd agglomeration is now almost completely encircled. The Otradnoye settlement in the Kharkiv region has been captured. Clearing operations have been completed in the village of Kleban-Byk on the Konstantinovka axis.

Donetsk Direction:

On the Pokrovsk axis, units of the Russian «Centre» grouping have continued to conduct offensive operations as part of the battle for the Pokrovsk-Mirnograd agglomeration. According to information from the Russian Armed Forces command, on 6 October, Russian assault groups made significant progress in the south-eastern part of Pokrovsk, dislodging Ukrainian units from a multi-storey residential area in the Shakhtersky district.

A notable accomplishment for the Russian forces was their advance towards the railway tracks in the western part of the city, as well as the expansion of their offensive in the vicinity of the coal warehouses. Reports also indicate that key supply routes for the Ukrainian grouping have been cut, specifically the road to Dobropolye, which is located south of Rodinskoye. According to Russian command estimates, the agglomeration is approximately 5 kilometers from complete encirclement.

The Ukrainian side confirms the intensity of the fighting in Pokrovsk, but characterizes the situation as under control. Reports mention the organization of defenses along the line of ponds in the Pushkin Street area, where Ukrainian units are attempting to prevent Russian troops from advancing further into the urban area.

Druzhkovka Direction
On the Druzhkovka axis, Russian units have achieved success in the area north of the Krasnoarmeysk agglomeration. The Russian command has reported establishing full control over the settlement of Vladimirovka, which had been cut off from Shakhovo when the bridge connecting the two settlements was destroyed.

Pressure on Toretskoye continues from the direction of Kucherov Yar. Russian assault groups are conducting clearing operations and consolidating their gains. According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian command is transferring additional reserves to stabilize the defense line in this sector of the front.

Kharkiv Direction

On 6 October, Russian units reported capturing the settlement of Otradnoye in the Kharkiv Oblast. According to the Russian military, this operation was carried out by the 79th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the 7th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment «Sever».

After establishing control over Otradnoye, Russian units began advancing south of the settlement to continue forming a buffer zone on the border with Belgorod Oblast. Ukrainian sources confirm the loss of control over Otradnoye, but state that the withdrawal was organized and conducted to pre-prepared positions.

Zaporizhzhia Direction
Intense fighting continues in the Stepnogorsk-Primorskoye sector on the Zaporizhzhia axis. Units of the Russian Airborne Forces have advanced from the southern and eastern sides of Stepnogorsk and in the southern part of Primorskoye.

There has been extremely high activity of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on this axis. Reports indicate that Ukrainian units deploy 30–50 drones simultaneously against a single target upon detecting Russian soldiers. The effective use of Ukrainian 155 mm caliber barrel artillery and tank units has also been noted.

The Russian military has expressed particular concern about the appearance of new Ukrainian electronic warfare systems, claiming that they have led to the loss of control over Russian drones. In turn, the Ukrainian side confirms the active use of electronic warfare systems to counter unmanned aerial vehicles, but does not disclose the technical details of the systems used.

Dnipropetrovsk Direction

On the border between the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, units of the Russian «Vostok» grouping are continuing to conduct offensive operations. Russian sources report consolidation in the Verbovoye area and attacks from the Stepovoye–Verbovoye line.

The Ukrainian command confirms pressure on this axis, but notes that the defense line remains stable. Reports mention the transfer of additional mobile reserves to counter potential breakthroughs.

On the Konstantinovka axis, Russian units have reported advancing and establishing control over the Kleban-Byk settlement. Russian assault groups are advancing towards Konstantinovka and are encountering organized resistance from Ukrainian units.

The Ukrainian side characterizes the situation on this axis as difficult but stable. Intensive artillery duels and Russian attempts to break through the defensive lines have been confirmed.

Sumy Direction
Ukrainian forces have recaptured several forested areas in the Alekseevka region. Fighting in this area is positional, with neither side achieving significant tactical success.

While Ukrainian military sources have confirmed successful counterattacks in this area, they also note that the overall operational situation on the Sumy axis has not changed significantly.

Conclusion:

On 6 October 2025, the operational situation demonstrates the continued high intensity of combat operations on the main axes, with the most significant changes occurring in the Donetsk region. The Russian armed forces are maintaining the initiative on most fronts, particularly on the Pokrovsk axis, where they have achieved the most notable tactical successes.

Facing a shortage of reserves, the Ukrainian armed forces continue to employ a flexible defense strategy, making the most of their advantages in unmanned aerial vehicle and electronic warfare system usage. This tactic is applied particularly effectively on the Zaporizhzhia axis, where Russian advancement is being held back by the large-scale use of drones and modern electronic warfare systems.

Against the backdrop of the complex operational situation, significant structural changes have occurred within Ukraine’s senior military leadership. The disbandment of the «Dnepr» operational-strategic group at the end of September was officially explained as a transition to a corps-based command system, but may have had personnel-related motives. The Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Alexander Syrsky, may have used this reorganization to weaken the position of his potential successor, General Mikhail Drapaty, who commanded the group. While retaining his staff, Drapaty will be transferred to a less significant sector of the front in the north-eastern direction, where he could be blamed for any potential territorial losses.

Meanwhile, the analytical platform Deepstate commented on the reform’s formal nature and lack of real improvements to the command and control system. According to their assessment, despite the announcement of the completion of the transition to the corps system, the new headquarters continue to command the same disparate units and have not abandoned the practice of creating temporary tactical groups. Analysts conclude that the reform has amounted to little more than a rebranding exercise, failing to increase command effectiveness. Under the current conditions, it has also become a tool for reshuffling personnel within the senior military leadership.
