The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies continue to conduct operations against ISIS cells in Syria’s vast central region.

On August 8, Syria’s al-Watan newspaper said that the army and its allies inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist group in the eastern countryside of Homs. A number of terrorists were killed or wounded by Syrian troops, who have been combing the region for the last three days. The army also sustained some fatalities.

Meanwhile, warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out a new wave of airstrikes on ISIS cells in the central region.

According to al-Watan, the Syrian and Russian airstrikes targeted eastern Hama, eastern Homs, western Deir Ezzor and southern Raqqa.

The last few weeks saw a decline in ISIS attacks in central Syria. Nevertheless, the terrorist group’s cells remain active in the region.

Late on August 6, unidentified gunmen, believed to be members of ISIS, stormed a house in the town of Atshana in the southern countryside of Raqqa. After steeling several sheep, the gunmen slaughtered two local men.

Despite ISIS fairly strong presence, the situation in central Syria remains under control. The terrorist group is now situated away from all strategic roads and major urban centers the region.
