The United States’ Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fomenting a popular uprising in Iran, CNN reported on March 3.
Multiple people familiar with the plan told the news network that the administration of President Donald Trump has been in active discussions with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq about providing them with military support.
A day earlier, Axios reported that Trump spoke by phone with Kurdish leaders in Iraq on Sunday to discuss the American-Israel war on Iran and what might come next.
Trump spoke to leaders from the two main Kurdish factions in Iraq — Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and Bafel Talabani, leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
A senior Iranian Kurdish official also revealed to CNN that Trump spoke with the president of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, Mustafa Hijri.
Iranian Kurdish armed groups have thousands of forces operating along the Iraq-Iran border, primarily in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. Since the start of the war, several of the groups have released public statements, hinting at some action.
These groups are expected to take part in a ground operation in Western Iran, in the coming days, the senior Iranian Kurdish official told CNN.
“We believe we have a big chance now,” the source said, explaining the timing of the operation. The source added the groups expect U.S. and Israeli support.
One person familiar with the discussions told CNN that the idea would be for Kurdish armed groups to take on the Iranian security forces and pin them down to make it easier for unarmed Iranians in the major cities to protest.
Another U.S. official said that the Kurds could help sow chaos in the region and stretch the Iranian regime’s military resources thin. Other ideas suggest that the Kurds take and hold territory in the northern part of Iran that would create a buffer zone for Israel.
CNN’s report is in line with another published by The Wall Street Journal on the same, which said that Trump is open to supporting the plan.
Separately, a source from Iranian Kurdistan and now living in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, told Israel’s Yent that, in light of Israel’s extensive air campaign, “Israel could easily carry out a ground attack from Iraqi Kurdistan with the support of the Iranian Kurdish peshmerga.”
Iran has struck military facilities housing or supporting U.S. forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan region since the start of the war. In the last 24 hours, however, the Iranian strikes intensified, and expanded to include positions of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of armed groups allied to the Islamic Republic, has been playing a key role in these strikes. In recent days it released several videos showing its fighters launched suicide drones, in addition to cruise and ballistic missiles at targets inside the country, and in the region.
The CIA’s plan is very risky. Iranian Kurdish opposition groups are also deeply fractured with differing ideologies, and competing agendas.
Adding to this the fact that while Iran is under pressure from American and Israeli strikes, its regular and reserve ground forces, numbered in the millions, are completely free to quickly attack and crush any uprising. A few Kurdish forces will have little, if no hope of succeeding.
This is not to mention that Iran’s allies in Iraq could easily move against the Kurdistan region to pressure it into pulling out from the plan.
In general, the plan mimics that of the 1961 Bay of Pigs Invasion, when the CIA landed some 1,500 fighters from Cuban opposition groups on the shores of the country with the aim of overthrowing Fidel Castro’s government. The attempt ended with all of the attackers getting killed or captured.

the bay of pigs 64 years ago was a disaster for the deep state and their schedule to become the undisputed hegemon of the world because of hesitation by the us president then. it seems that russian hesitation during the special military operation will eventually lead to a strategic loss for russia, worse than the afghan war and the fall of the ussr.
the president of peace is actually going to start ww3 to hide his involvement in the epstein saga.
iran needs to take over irbil. the kurd turds don’t stand a chance.
