Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates was struck on March 11 morning, following a large missile and drone attack on neighboring Saudi Arabia overnight amid the ongoing American-Israeli war on Iran.

In a statement, the Government of Dubai said that two drones were intercepted near the airport, adding that debris fell nearby wounding four. Three foreign nationals — two Ghanaians and one Bangladeshi — were lightly injured in the attack, and an Indian is moderately injured, according to the government.

Dubai airport is the world’s busiest hub for international passenger traffic, serving as a critical global gateway that connects over 260 destinations across six continents.

The drone attack, which was likely carried out by Iran, caused panic inside the airport, which halted operations for a very brief period of time.

The UAE has taken the brunt of Iranian retaliatory attacks since the start of the American-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic, but in recent days attacks on Saudi Arabia have been increasing.

Overnight, one of the largest attacks since the start of the war targeted the kingdom, with the Saudi Ministry of Defense announcing the interception of seven ballistic missiles and 24 drones in 11 separate statements.

Six of the missiles targeted Prince Sultan, according to the ministry. Multiple United States warplanes are currently based at Prince Sultan, including airborne early warning and control aircraft, as well as communication relay planes. These warplanes are certainly aiding the attack on Iran.

The ministry also said that nine of the drones were intercepted over the Empty Quarter, while heading towards Shaybah field. The field is one of the world’s largest oil and gas fields, producing one million barrels per day of premium crude and serving as a critical source of natural gas liquids for Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical industry.

The seventh missile and remaining drones were intercepted over the Eastern Province, Hafr Al Batin, and to the east of Al Kharj Governorate, where multiple military sites, important fields, and key infrastructure facilities are located.

In the morning, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had carried out the 37th wave of Operation “True Promise 4” against Israeli and U.S. targets across the region, describing it as “the most intense and heaviest” since the start of the war.

The guard said in a statement that the wave included the use of the heavy Khorramshahr-4 missile in a multi-launch strike against U.S. and Israeli military infrastructure.

The statement noted the wave targeted the Ha’ela Satellite Communication Center south of the city of Tel Aviv for the second time since the start of the war, alongside military sites in the cities of Be’er Ya’akov, al-Quds, and Haifa. It added that the same wave also struck several U.S. targets in the city of Erbil, in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, as well as facilities linked to the headquarters of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, based in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

Multiple impacts were reported across the targeted countries, but no casualties were reported and the extent of damage remains unclear.

It’s worth noting that Iran has rarely announced its attacks against the UAE and Saudi Arabia since the start of the war, likely to avoid an escalation.

While Gulf countries have so far refrained from responding, the chances of them joining the American-Israeli war is certainly increasing with every new Iranian attack. Countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia are losing a lot, not just in direct damage from missiles and drones, but also from the de-facto closure of the Strait of Hormuze and the sense of insecurity which forced them to cut down on oil production.

“the saudi ministry of defense announcing the interception of seven ballistic missiles and 24 drones in 11 separate statements.” — utter nonsense. the iranians are blasting through israeli and amerikan air defenses in israel —- the saudi’s aren’t going to tell us that their ‘air defenses’ are better than the ones stationed in and about occupied palestine. one might be believable — two even. all of them ? doubt it.
