Five civilians were killed and 37 others were wounded, including six children, late on August 30 when Kiev forces fired several salvos of rockets at the Russian region of Belgorod.
“Our air defense system worked over Belgorod and several targets were shot down as they approached the city,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram. “To our great sorrow, one person died as a result of a direct hit on a passenger car.”
In addition to the vehicle, an apartment building and several commercial buildings were struck by rockets, according to the governor.
Gladkov later updated the death toll to five, saying that a woman and four men died on the spot from their injuries before the ambulances arrived.
The attack was carried out using rockets armed with cluster munitions Czech-made RM-70 Vampire multiple launch rocket systems, the governor revealed.
The attack also caused property damage to three apartment buildings in the city, as well as two commercial buildings. Two houses in the nearby settlement of Dubovoye were set on fire by the incoming missiles, but it was quickly extinguished by emergency services.
The Kiev regime stepped up attacks on Russian territory in the last few months, with Belgorod being one of the main targets.
The latest deadly attack on the region will not likely go without a response. The Russian military will likely retaliate by targeting Ukraine military infrastructure and related energy facilities.
