On February 7, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) and several Free Syrian Army (FSA) groups launched a new attack at positions of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) southwest of the Abu Duhur airbase in the southeastern Idlib countryside.
Syrian opposition sources reported that HTS and its allies had captured the village of Ajjaz, 17km southwest of the Abu Duhur airbase. However, this claim is not yet confirmed.
The SAA is currently repelling HTS attack on its positions in the southeastern Idlib countryside, according to Syrian pro-government sources. Syrian opposition activists also confirmed that several warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces are currently targeting HTS’ fighters and vehicles in southeastern Idlib.
This is the second counter attack of HTS and its allies since the SAA and the Tiger Forces halted their military operations in Idlib governorate on February 4. The radical groups managed to recapture the village of Tell Sultan southwest of the Abu Duhur airbase on February 5 during the its first attack.
Experts believe that the Tiger Forces will resume their military operations in Idlib governorate against HTS as soon as they eliminate ISIS pocket in the northeastern Hama countryside.
