Hamas deployed its fighters in several parts of the Gaza Strip to hunt down people accused of conducting criminal activities or even collaborating with Israel after the ceasefire deal brokered by the United States went into effect.
The fighters were seen in several parts of the Strip on October 13, after the group released all living hostages. Some were wearing a shoulder patch identifying them as members of the elite “Shadow Unit,” which was reportedly tasked with guarding the hostages.
While Hamas fighters emerged only after the release of the hostages, clashes with alleged criminals and collaborators first broke out the moment the ceasefire went into effect on October 10. The most noticeable battle was in Gaza City, where Hamas conducted an operation against the Doghmosh clan.
A senior official in the Hamas-run ministry of interior told Al Jazeera Arabic at the time that the clashes in the city involved “an armed militia affiliated with the [Israeli] occupation,” adding that “militia members” killed displaced people as they were returning from southern Gaza. The Qatari-owned news channel later reported that over 60 were arrested.
Notably, Palestinian journalist Saleh Aljafarawi was killed during the clashes in Gaza City, specifically in the Sabra neighborhood.
By October 13, Hamas fighters had killed 32 members of “a gang affiliated with a family in Gaza City”, while six of its personnel had also been killed, according to Reuters, which cited a Hamas security official.
A video from Gaza that surfaced online on the same day shows several fighters, reportedly members of Hamas, opening fire at least seven men after forcing them to kneel in the street. Civilians who witnessed the execution cheered “Allah Akbar,” or God is Great, and called those killed “collaborators.”
Despite the ongoing purge, the leader of the so-called Strike Force Against Terror, an Israel-backed group based in the southern Gaza, remained defiant.
“To all the Hamas rats, your tunnels are destroyed, your rights don’t exist any more. Repent before it is too late – there is no Hamas from today onward,” Hossam al-Astal said in a social media post.
Meanwhile, a Hamas security official told The Guardian that a hunt was under way for Yasser Abu Shabab, the leader of the so-called Popular Forces, another Israeli-backed group based in the southern part of the Strip. The official revealed that one of the fugitive leader’s aides had been “liquidated” in recent days.
“The security campaign is continuing and escalating until this issue is completely over, and no party will be allowed to violate the law,” the official added.
Asked by reporters on Air Force One about the ongoing purge by Hamas in Gaza on October 13, the U.S. president, Donald Trump, suggested that the group was acting within the parameters of the ceasefire deal.
“They do want to stop the problems and they’ve been open about it, and we gave them approval for a period of time … You have close to 2 million people going back to buildings that have been demolished, and a lot of bad things can happen. So we want it to be – we want it to be safe. I think it’s going to be fine. Who knows for sure,” Trump said.
The first phase of Trump’s deal has been going very well. Hamas released all 20 living hostages and is working on handing over the bodies of those who were killed. Israel also withdrew its forces to the agreed-up line and is releasing 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 250 serving lengthy sentences.
The plan, which calls for the complete disarmament of Hamas and the establishment of a new governing body in Gaza, could face serious problems later, however.
Hamas has so far refused any discussion about its weapons, saying it would be ready to surrender them to a future Palestinian state. Meanwhile, Israel has been very strict about its demand to completely disarm Gaza. In that regard, the recent footage of the group’s fighters in Gaza is clearly damaging the image of victory that Israel has been trying to portray.
Trump seems very keen on ending the war, but the issue of disarmament could soon lead to a new escalation in Gaza, where over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed over the past two years.

for israel, it’s all just a war game because the crazy psychopaths are imported from khazaria.
khazaria is russia and now i hope you know why putler loves erdogan so much.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkmpqo7mrhm let him have erdogan, but let him return the stolen land to georgia, ukraine, finland and japan. let putler honor sultan erdogan, but let the yellow race secede from russia.
ron paul deserves respect, he clearly explained why netanyahu gave a lot of money to hamas and that hamas is controlled by israel. considering the meanness and treachery of russia, from which the khazars originate, it is more than obvious that ron paul was right. israel is just a gang of khazars who fled poverty from stalin’s russia. stalin’s supporters in the yugoslav informburo were imprisoned in goli island by the head of yugoslavia, josip broz tito.
here we all conclude that hamas is ☪️ancerous. they kill rape, slay, murder, torture and violator of ceasefire. haha. fck hamass!
