On August 17, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) security forces executed six ISIS members, who were captured during previous security operations in the northern governorate of Idlib, according to the HTS-linked news agency Iba’a. The radical group accused the ISIS members of planting several IEDs and killing many people in the opposition-held areas of northern Syria.

Few hours prior to the execution, three fighters of HTS were killed when two IEDs exploded near a checkpoint of the radical group in the outskirt of the town of Saraqib in the southeastern Idlib countryside. Syrian opposition activists believe that ISIS cells were behind the attack.

During the last few months, ISIS cells stepped up their operations against HTS and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in northern Syria. As a response, HTS security forces launched several security operations in the region and arrested dozens of ISIS members and sympathizers.

Despite of these efforts, more than 250 militants and civilians have been assassinated in northern Syrian since May, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
