Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) executed on September 30 two elderly men after accusing them of “spying” for the Syrian intelligence.

Qusay Noelati, a security commander in the terrorist group, claimed that the victims, Badr Rajab Sallum and Mohamad Hussein had provided the Military Intelligence Directorate (MID) with coordinates of several militants’ positons.

“HTS will not hesitate to pursue spies and spoilers, it will strike with an iron fist all those who beg themselves to betray the religion of God and this blessed revolution,” HTS’ news network, Iba’a, quoted Noelati as saying.

Rajab Sallum was the father of five Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers. One of them lost his life in Deir Ezzor fighting ISIS. Mohamad Hussein was a school principal. Both victims are from the town of Sheikh Dames in southern Idlib.

HTS’ security forces arrested hundreds of civilians during the last year for challenging its rule over Greater Idlib. Many were later executed by the terrorist group, including at least one opposition activist.

As usual, HTS didn’t present any evidence supporting its accusations against Rajab Sallum and Mohamad Hussein. The terrorist group is likely carrying out these executions to intimidate locals in Greater Idlib.
