The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled on June 27 a new large-scale attack by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allies on its positions in the towns of Qasabiyeh and Qiratah, which are located on the administrative border between Hama and Idlib.

A military source told Muraselon, a pro-government news outlet, that the army destroyed at least one battle tank and two armored vehicles during the clashes around the two towns.

“Several militants were also killed and injured, their bodies are still scattered over the nearby hills,” the source added.

This was the second attack on the SAA this week. Three days ago, militants of the “Wa Harid al-Muminin” operations room, a coalition of al-Qaeda-affiliated groups that’s allied to HTS, attacked several positions near the town of Atshan in northern Hama, killing at least 18 Syrian soldiers.

These repeated attacks may force the SAA to resume in ground operations in Greater Idlib very soon. Russian and Syrian warplanes are already intensifying their airstrikes on the region.
