Abu Mohammad al-Julani, military leader and official leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham since October 2017, has fallen into a coma following a Russian surgical strike on the terrorist group’s top commanders in Syria’s Idlib province, according to Russian Ministry of Defense as reported by TASS.

The Ministry reported on October 4 that the Russian combat jet strike in Syria left Julani with heavy fragmentation wounds and in critical condition. Julani reportedly has lost an arm.

As a result of the precision strike by a Su-34 bomber 49 militants were killed, including seven leaders in Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s “eastern sector”.

The jet also destroyed the terrorist group’s “largest underground ammunition depot” near the town of Abu ad-Duhur, accommodating “over 1,000 tons of artillery shells and multiple launch rockets.”

The airstrike also destroyed a nearby “ammunition and explosives depot and six SUVs with large-caliber weapons,” Major General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the defense ministry, said.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s denies the claim that Julani was wounded in the airstrike through their Twitter channels, though they are yet to show photographic evidence that Julani was unharmed.
