A helicopter carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Kursk region was at the epicenter of a Ukrainian drone attack, the commander of the air defense division, Yuri Dashkin, told the Rossiya-24 TV channel on May 25.
The commander said the encounter took place on May 20. Putin was on his way to Kursk, which was recently liberated from Kiev forces, on a working visit.
As the helicopter was flying over Kursk with the presidential board, the intensity of the Ukrainian drone attack increased significantly, according to Dashkin.
“We simultaneously conducted an anti-aircraft battle and ensured the safety of the president’s helicopter flight in the air,” said the commander, adding that the attack by Ukrainian drones was successfully repelled.
A day after the reported attack, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that more than 159 Ukrainian drones were shot down over Russian territory, including over Kursk
Kiev forces infiltrated Kursk on August 6 of last year, relying mainly on Western-made weapons and foreign mercenaries. The Russian military halted the Ukrainian attack within a few days, and the final offensive to clear the region began earlier this year.
During a March 12 visit to a command post in Kursk, Putin ordered the Russian military to “fully liberate” the region. The mission was completed within a few weeks.
The recent Ukrainian drone attack was a serious escalation. The Russian military has already launched several group strikes. Still, the information revealed by Dashkin indicates that Moscow could take even more measures to deter the Kiev regime.
Speaking two days after the attack, Putin described the methods used by Kiev forces as “terrorism,” vowing that attacks on Russian territories wont go without a response.

right now saying they should get this or that is not realistic. most of the front is a costly stalemate with just minor changes over time as everything that changes costs alot of time and effort. taking any ground for either side is very costly in manpower and equipment. it would have been better if a peacedeal was made september 2022 when both sides had their gains consolidated. the front line has barely moved ever since. it has only costed many lives
