Late on August 8, the Houthis launched two Qasef-2K suicide unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Yemeni group, said that one of the UAVs struck the airport’s control tower, while the other hit what he described as a “sensitive military target.”

“Both operations disrupted aerial aviation at Abha airport,” the spokesman added.

From its side, the Saudi-led coalition announced that its air-defense systems intercepted and shot down two hostile UAVs, which were heading towards the Kingdom’s southern provinces of Jizan and ‘Asir.

A spokesman for the coalition, Col. Turki al-Malki, claimed that the downed UAVs were launched from the Houthi-held province of ‘Amran and the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

This coordinated attack on Abha International Airport is an example of how the Houthis are working to intensify their strikes on Saudi Arabia’s southern region.
