The Houthis’ military media on September 22 released footage it said shows recent operations along Yemen’s western coast, including attacks on Saudi-backed government forces and the capture of military positions and equipment.
The footage covered fighting across six districts and more than 27 military camps, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, which quoted a military source as saying more than 600 government fighters were killed or wounded during the offensive.
The 43-minute video showed Houthi forces entering positions in areas including Mokha, Hays and the southern Red Sea coast.
The footage also showed captured weapons, vehicles and military facilities, as well as drone and missile strikes on government forces.
The releases come after a major Houthi offensive along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, codenamed by the group “Operation God is Stronger in Might and More Severe in Punishment.”
The Houthis captured the strategic port city of Mokha on September 10 and subsequently reached Perim island and the coastal town of Dhubab near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The advance has significantly changed the military situation along the western coast and brought the Houthis closer to controlling territory around one of the world’s key maritime chokepoints. Fighting has also triggered a new wave of displacement in Yemen.
