Yemen’s Houthis (Ansar Allah) on November 5 released new footage showing first-person-view (FPV) suicide quadcopters striking Saudi-backed forces in al-Jawf province.
The footage shows strikes against military vehicles and troop concentrations across al-Jawf’s eastern desert. The Houthis said all the targets shown were hit directly.
The FPV suicide quadcopters, dubbed “Shoawaz” by the Houthis, have inflicted serious losses on Saudi-backed forces in recent weeks. They have been particularly lethal in desert areas, where vehicles and troops have limited opportunities to take cover.
The growing deployment of FPV suicide quadcopters has given the Houthis a clear tactical advantage, allowing them to threaten vehicles, disrupt troop movements and leave fighters stranded far from supply lines.
The threat is particularly significant in al-Jawf, where transportation is essential to maintaining positions across vast desert areas.
The Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported that the latest footage marked the sixth operational appearance of the Shoawaz drones since their public unveiling last month.
Another drone system on which the Houthis have relied heavily is the Rujum, a larger hexacopter capable of dropping unguided munitions.
