A source from the Houthis’ Defense Ministry on May 31 called on all foreign investors and companies to leave Israel as soon as possible, saying that the work environment there will not be safe any more.
In a statement carried out by Al-Masirah TV, the unnamed source vowed that Yemeni missiles “will not stop targeting the criminal Zionist entity until the aggression stops and the siege on our people in Gaza is lifted.”
“Our missiles are designed with multiple warheads, and if intercepted, they will split to hit more targets, rendering the Zionist enemy’s systems useless,” the source said, implying that the Houthis could soon use ballistic missiles armed with cluster warheads which will be harder to completely neutralize even if intercepted successfully.
“The criminal Netanyahu’s policies will prolong your days and nights in shelters in the coming days,” he added.
The warning is the latest in a series of measures the Houthis have taken since Israel resumed its war on Gaza last February.
Arming ballistic missiles with cluster warheads is a difficult task due to the challenges of balancing range, payload, accuracy, and the complex interactions of multiple charges. However, Iran, the main backer of the Houthis, have already managed to produce such systems. Thus, it is very possible that the Houthis now have the technology.
Earlier this month, the group announced a “comprehensive aerial blockade” on Israel after a successful missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport. Many airlines suspended all flights to the country as a result. The group later announced a blockade on the port of Haifa, the largest in Israel, although it has so far failed to reinforce it.
The latest Houthi missile attack was on May 29. The Israeli Defense Forces said that the missile was intercepted by air defenses.
Since March 18, when the IDF resumed its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have launched 42 ballistic missiles and at least 10 suicide drones at Israel.
In response, at least four waves of Israeli strikes targeted infrastructure in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in recent weeks, from the ports in al-Hodeidah, to cement factories, power stations and Sanaa International Airport in the Yemeni capital.
The Israeli strikes caused casualties and heavy damage. However, they failed to deter the Houthis and had no effect on the group’s military capabilities.
