Radical militants in northwestern Syria shelled the district of al-Zahar in the government-held city of Aleppo on February 20, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). The monitoring group said that the shelling didn’t result in any casualties.

In response, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) artillery shelled dozens of militants’ positions in northern Hama, northern Lattakia, southern Idlib and southwestern Aleppo.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the army’s shelling killed several terrorists including a commander of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) known as Abu Omar al-Kurdi.

Radical groups, led by HTS, have stepped up their attacks on the civilians in the government-held areas following the Russian-Turkish-Iranian summit last week. The militants’ new attacks killed at least one civilian and injured many others in Aleppo and Hama.

Despite these attacks, the SAA and its allies are yet to launch any military operation to force the radical militants withdraw from the demilitarized zone.
