The Afrin Liberation Forces (ALF) claimed on August 2 that its units killed three Turkish service members in a recent special operation in the occupied area of Afrin.
“Our forces continue to carry out military operations against the soldiers of the Turkish occupation army and their mercenaries in Afrin and its surrounding, causing more dead and wounded in their ranks,” a statement by the Kurdish guerrilla group reads.
A video of the operation, which took place on July 31, shows ALF fighters launching three anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) at two fortified positions and a battle tank of the Turkish Armed Forces in the village of Kimara in southern Afrin.
While the video shows direct hits, it remains unclear if any Turkish soldiers were indeed killed or injured in the ALF’s operation. Turkey’s Ministry of National Defence has not commented on these claims, so far.
In the last few months, Afrin witnessed increasing attacks by the ALF and other Kurdish guerrilla groups. Kurdish fighters also started to use more advance weapons such as ATGMs, armed drones and sniper rifles equipped with thermal sights.
