The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on July 22 it launched a fresh wave of retaliatory missile and drone strikes on two United States military bases in Jordan.
In a statement, the IRGC said the strikes targeted King Faisal and Prince Hassan air bases overnight as part of the latest phase of “Operation Nasr-2.” It described the operation as a response to continued U.S. aggression against Iran.
According to the statement, one strike hit a shelter used to maintain and service F-15 fighter jets. A separate drone preparation hangar was destroyed, along with eight new MQ-9 drones still in their shipping containers. Two additional MQ-9s positioned outside the facility sustained heavy damage. A helicopter maintenance hangar was also struck, inflicting significant damage on two U.S. heavy-lift helicopters.
The IRGC said another strike targeted a U.S. troop accommodation facility, resulting in an unspecified number of American casualties.
“If the aggressor is not punished and made to pay a heavy price for violating agreements, it will assume it can resume war whenever it wishes and end it whenever it comes under pressure, perpetuating the cycle of war, negotiations and renewed war,” the statement said.
The Corps warned that if U.S. aggression against Iran continues, Iran’s armed forces are fully prepared to launch operations that would leave Washington with “nothing but regret” and plunge the country into mourning.
The Jordanian military said in a statement that Iran launched six missiles from its territory toward the kingdom. Jordanian air defense systems intercepted four of them upon entry into Jordanian airspace, while the remaining two struck remote, uninhabited areas, causing no injuries or material damage. Explosions were heard and plumes of smoke were seen rising from Israel’s Red Sea resort city of Eilat, near the Jordanian border city of Aqaba.
In a follow-up statement, the military said Jordanian air defenses also shot down four Iranian drones targeting the kingdom, again with no casualties or damage reported.
Jordan became a key hub for U.S. operations against Iran amid the war, and during the ongoing limited confrontation, it was hit by the Islamic Republic harder than before. Three American soldiers were killed and dozens others were wounded there in recent days.
The confrontation between the U.S. and Iran is slowly turning into a serious regional conflict, and could soon escalate to a full-on war.
