Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on July 30 that it had destroyed two drone hangars, a fuel storage facility for military aircraft and helicopters belonging to the United States military at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait as part of its ongoing “Operation Nasr-2.”
In a statement released, the IRGC said the operation was carried out as a continuation of Iran’s campaign to punish the United States for what it called “aggression” in the region.
The statement addressed the people of Kuwait, warning that the campaign would continue “until the end of the plundering of Muslim nations’ wealth and resources and the expulsion of U.S. occupying and looting forces from the region.”
Addressing the Iranian people, the Corps said that for 150 consecutive nights, citizens across the country have held gatherings demanding revenge for the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and the complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region.
The reference to the 150 nights of rallies relates to demonstrations that began after the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei on February 28 by the United States and Israel, which Iran has described as a “terrorist” act.
The statement added that, alongside the public, personnel from the IRGC Aerospace Force and Ground Force have continued to confront the “aggressor enemy” with determination and courage.
Earlier in the day, the Kuwaiti army said an Iranian attack targeted a building belonging to a Chinese company in northern Kuwait, killing one worker.
Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Al-Atwan said the “Iranian aggression” struck the building, causing extensive material damage. He added the relevant authorities immediately began taking the necessary measures to respond to the incident in coordination with other agencies.
The attack was the second announced by the IRGC since the U.S. launched an extensive wave of strikes against Iran overnight, killing at least three people. The first attack targeted Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The Corps said that three F-35 fighter jets were destroyed there, but Central Command dismissed these claims.
The exchange of strikes may be the start of another confrontation between the U.S. and Iran after a brief ceasefire. The Islamic Republic will certainly respond to any further American attacks, and it is very likely that it will expand the scope of its strikes.
