In a last attempt to hold onto its remaining positions in the town of Hajin, ISIS attacked several key positions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) inside the town with five suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (SVBIEDs) on December 12, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The ISIS-linked news agency, Amaq, confirmed that at least one of the SVBIEDs hit a gathering of SDF troops in Hajin’s hospital, which was captured by US-backed forces a day earlier. Around 15 fighters were reportedly killed and injured in the attack.
The SDF said that its forces continue to advance inside Hajin, despite the terrorist group’s resistance. According to the group’s media center, US-led coalition warplanes conducted 35 airstrikes on ISIS positions there in the last 24 hours.
“Heavy clashes broke out between our fighters and elements of the terrorist group, the terrorist used all sorts of weapons, but our fighters advanced on this axis,” the SDF media center said in its daily press release.
More than 70% of Hajin has been liberated by the SDF since the begging of this month. The remaining positions of ISIS are expected to collapse within few weeks, as the terrorist group is struggling to resupply its fighters on the frontlines.
