A 20-year-old citizen of the United States residing in the Jerusalem area was arrested on suspicion of maintaining contact with Iranian intelligence operatives and carrying out paid assignments that included photographing sensitive sites in Israel, the Israel Police and Shin Bet security agency announced on June 30.

The man was arrested June 9 on suspicion of maintaining contact with an Iran-linked agent, police say in a statement announcing his forthcoming indictment.

As part of that contact, police said, the suspect carried out several assignments involving the documentation and photographing of sensitive sites. He allegedly received payments ranging from tens to hundreds of dollars for each of the missions.

Police have formally requested that the court remand the young man in custody until the conclusion of all legal proceedings against him.

“In recent months, several defendants suspected of spying for the enemy have been exposed, some of whom allegedly acted during wartime and thereby assisted the enemy in advancing its plans within Israel,” Chief Inspector Amichai Panta, an investigations officer in the Jerusalem District’s central unit, said.

Police and Shin Bet vowed to keep pursuing and prosecuting anyone in Israel suspected of collaborating with hostile counties.

This incident is the latest in a rising wave of Iran-linked espionage cases in Israel. Authorities there allege that citizens and residents have been recruited by Iranian intelligence for paid missions inside the country, frequently involving photography, surveillance, and gathering information on potential targets.

25 Israelis and foreign residents were indicted in Iran-related espionage cases and120 separate suspected Iranian espionage incidents were thwarted during 2025, according to the Shin Bet’s year-end report. The security agency said that the number of such arrests had risen sharply this year.

Iranian intelligence is certainly seeing more and more success in Israel, which is becoming increasingly alarmed by the issue.

unlike the government persecuting him that had “5 dancing representatives” 25 years ago in lower manhattan who were stopped on the gw bridge in new york after their contribution in doing the same as this guy allegedly did “observing”… who were later found to be carrying ordnance in their van – released 30 days later to go home to i$rael no questions asked?…. by the way… how’s jonathan pollard’s campaign going???….
