The armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) downed by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on September 21 may be Iranian, Lt. Col. Avichay Adraee, a spokesman for the Israeli military claimed.
“What is certain is that this is not a UAV of the [Israeli] Defense Forces (IDF), so are we talking about additional Iranian explosives [forces] working without coordination in the Syrian part of Golan,” Lt. Col. Adraee wrote on Twitter.
The spokesman also claimed that the UAV was downed in the same area, from which members of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) supposedly attempted to launch “killer drones” at Israel last month.
“Right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing,” a poster published by Adraee.
By claiming so, Adraee contradicted the Israeli military’s own story of the alleged Iranian drone attack. On August 25, the Israeli military claimed that IRGC forces were planning to launch the drones from the town of Aqraba in southern Damascus, and not from the town of Erneh near al-Golan, where the armed UAV was downed by the SAA.
Israel is believed to use drones similar to the one brought down by the Syrian military near Erneh in the southern Beirut attack on August 25, which targeted a media center of Hezbollah.
