An Israeli reservist was killed when a Humvee overturned in southern Lebanon, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on April 14.

The deadly incident took place two days earlier, according to the military. The slain reservist was a firetruck driver in the 188th Armored Brigade.

Three other reservists were injured in the same incident, one of them moderately and the other two lightly, and were evacuated for medical care, the IDF said, noting that the circumstances of the apparent accident are currently under investigation.

Separately, the IDF acknowledged that ten soldiers were wounded, three of them seriously, during a clash with three Hezbollah fighters in the southern Lebanon town of Bint Jebil.

The soldiers of the Paratroopers Brigade’s 101st Battalion were taken to a hospital and their families were notified, the military said. Three of the paratroopers were listed in serious condition, one was in moderate condition, and six were lightly hurt.

It also claimed that the paratroops returned fire during the clash, killing two fighters of Hezbollah. A third was killed later while attempting to withdraw.

In another incident, a commander of the 401st Armored Brigade’s 52nd Battalion was severely wounded during “operational activity” in southern Lebanon, according to the IDF.

The military said the circumstances under which the officer, a lieutenant colonel, was seriously wounded are under investigation. He was airlifted to a hospital by helicopter.

Fighting raged in southern Lebanon in recent days, specifically in Bint Jebil in the central sector and Khiam in the eastern sector. Both towns are well-known strongholds of Hezbollah. Israeli strikes wiped out much of the two towns. Still, they are yet to be completely captured by the IDF.

Hezbollah has been launching dozens of rockets and drones everyday, targeting Israeli troops in southern Lebanon, in addition to northern Israel.

Thirteen IDF soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon amid fighting against Hezbollah, so far. Two Israeli civilians were also killed in the north of the country by the group’s rocket fire. A third Israeli civilian was mistakenly killed in the north by IDF artillery shelling.

Meanwhile in Lebanon, more than 2,000 people have been killed since the start of the war, according to the health ministry.

Israel and Lebanon held their first in-person meeting in the United States on April 14. The talks, which will be hosted at the US State Department, didn’t result in a ceasefire, however. Hezbollah secretary-general Naim Qassem had warned the Lebanese government against moving forward with the talks.
