As of October 7, Kiev forces are still incapable of stopping the advance of the Russian military in Kostiantynivka and Seversk in the Donetsk direction, or in Kupyansk in the direction of Kharkiv.
In the area around Kostiantynivka, the Yug [South] Group of Forces advanced to the east of Pleshcheyevka, capturing a network of fortifications built by Kiev forces.
The settlement is located to the southeast of Kostiantynivka. The advance there is meant to set the ground for an offensive at the city. Russian troops are already battling Kiev forces in the southeastern outskirts of the city, close to Oleksandro-Shul’tyne. However, an offensive on the city itself will not likely start soon.
Moving to the northeast in Donetsk, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Yug Group of Forces had taken over Fedorivka to the south of Seversk. The settlement was stormed by Russian troops several days earlier.
A new successful push by Russian troops from Vyimka towards the southeastern outskirts of Seversk was also reported.
The Yug Group of Forces is slowly closing in on Seversk from the southern direction. The next target is likely Zvanivka. Russian troops will also likely work to clear the pocket held by Ukrainian troops between Pereizne and Vyimka, although this will likely take time.
Meanwhile in Khakriv, Zapad [West] Group of Forces is still advancing in the eastern and western parts of Kupyansk. Ukrainian troops are still cornered in a narrow strip in the center, mainly along Privokzalnaya street.
Kiev has not yet made any real attempt to push Russian troops back, which suggests that its forces are facing serious shortages. This is of course not surprising considering that the Russian military stepped up strikes on key supply routes leading to the city, especially using drones.
The situation of Kiev forces in Kupyansk could soon even get more complicated, as the Zapad Group of Forces is advancing from Stepova Novoselivka towards Pishchane. From there, Ukrainian defenses to the east of Kupyansk will be completely exposed.
Kiev forces are clearly incapable of slowing down the advance of the Russian military in Kostiantynivka, Seversk, or Kupyansk. Still, a complete collapse of Ukrainian defenses in these areas is unlikely to happen soon due to several factors, including the intense use of drones and deployment of blocking detachments.
