In the morning of March 2, Kurdish forces launched a hit and run attack on several positions of the Euphrates Shield (ES) force in the Turkish occupied-part of the northern Aleppo countryside. The local SMART news agency said that six fighters of the Turkish-backed National Syrian Army (NSA) were killed in the surprise attack.
“Fighters of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) attempted to sneak into positons of the NSA in the outskirt of the town [of Kaljibrin], which led to clashes,” Ali Abu Obieda, a co-chairman of Kaljibrin’s media office, told SMART.
Contrary to Obieda’s claims, several local sources confirmed that Kurdish fighters successfully stormed the NSA’s positions. However, they willingly withdrew few minutes later leaving behind the bodies of the dead militants.
Following the attack, the Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported that the Turkish military and its proxies shelled the Kurdish-held positions in the town of al-Bughaz, southeast of Kaljibrin in northern Aleppo. The shelling was likely a response to the attack on the NSA.
The YPG has not commented on the opposition’s claims so far. However, the Kurdish group is known for launching such attacks on Turkish-backed militants on a constant basis.
