Russian forces are preparing to enter the town of Tell Tamr in the northern al-Hasakah countryside amid heavy clashes between Turkish-backed militants and Kurdish forces, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on November 16.
According to local Kurdish sources, the Russian Military Police may establish a post inside the Christian town, which is witnessing repeated attacks by Turkish forces.
The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) has been attempting to capture the town for several weeks, now. The repeated attacks forced most of the locals to flee the town.
The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a counter-attack in Tell Tamr countryside, a day ago. The villages of al-Manakha, l-Dawdiyah, al-Aziziyah and large parts of al-Arisha were recaptured.
The establishment of a Russian post in Tell Tamr could put an end to the SNA attacks on the town and facilitate the return of the locals.
