Early on August 15, warplanes of the Libyan Air Force (LAF) carried out several airstrikes on the Zuwarah International Airport west of the country’s capital Tripoli.
In an official statement, the LNA claimed that the airstrikes destroyed two shelters, which were being used by Turkish unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs).
“After collecting information on the movements of Turkish drones, which are supporting terrorism and terrorists … our air force’s warplanes … struck two shelters, leveling them with the ground,” the statement reads.
The LNA added that these airstrikes were “a warning” only, vowing to attack any position that would pose a threat to its troops.
Forces loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) released photos showing the aftermath of the airstrikes on Zuwarah airport, claiming that they were conducted by UCAVs of the UAE Air Force (UAEAF).
While the claims of both sides remain uncertain, Turkey and the UAE are both known to be operating UCAVs over Libya to support their local allies.
