Two children were killed on July 3 when militants stationed in Idlib’s demilitarized zone shelled the government-held towns of Aziziyah and al-Rasif in the northern Hama countryside.
Local sources identified the victims as 6-year old Jana Hamid al-Mahmod and 7-year old Marim Mohamad al-Mahmod. No other civilians were reportedly injured.
Jaysh al-Izza, a close ally of Hay’at Tahir al-Sham (HTS), released several photos showing its fighters shelling northern Hama few minutes after the attack only. This allowed many pro-government activists to blame the group responsible for the crime.
Last May, Jaysh al-Izza’s Grad rockets claimed the lives of four children in the government-held town of al-Suqaylabiyah in northern Hama.
In what appears to be a response to the new attack, Russia and Syrian warplanes resumed their airstrikes on Greater Idlib. The upcoming few hours may witness more actions by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
