More suspected Israeli strikes hit the coast of Syria on August 6 amid complete silence from the country’s Islamist-led interim government.

In the early morning, a strike reportedly hit a commandos regiment base located near the town of al-Sanobar in the southern Latakia countryside. Activists said that the main battle tanks and other types of heavy armored vehicles were deployed there. No casualties were reported.

Another strike hit the 107th Brigade close to the town of Zama, also located in the southern Latakia countryside, late at night.

The base houses depots of the former Syrian Navy with anti-ship missiles and other advanced equipment. It has been struck on multiple occasions since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, including at least three times last month. A large security force was dispatched to the base after the strike, but again, no losses were reported.

The Syrian government and its media ignored both strikes. There were also no statements from the Israeli Defense Forces.

It’s worth noting that both bases are located just a few kilometers away from Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base close to the city of Jableh in the southern Latakia countryside.

The recent suspected Israeli strikes on the Syrian coast may be meant to put pressure on the interim government, or simply a part of Israel’s “war-between-the-wars” policy.

The Israeli term war-between-the-war refers to an inter-war campaign done through the Israeli military and the intelligence service to prevent the country’s enemies from developing capabilities that will enable them to violate Israel’s balance of deterrence through detecting and selectively destroying emerging threats to the country’s security.

Israel followed this policy towards the former Syrian military, targeting its capabilities overtly and covertly for over a decade until the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad collapsed.

The latest strikes came just two days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the second phone call between the two leaders in recent days. The situation in Syria was reportedly brought up.
