A group calling itself the “Palestinian Liberation Brigades” has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack which targeted the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights late on May 14.

The group’s name first appeared on a number of Syria and Iraq social media news channels and pages, including the Sabereen News. The Telegram channel is known to be close to pro-Iranian factions in Iraq.

As for now, no information about the mysterious group are available. The rocket attack was reportedly a response to the ongoing Israeli attack on Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli military, three rockets were fired from southern Syria. Two landed in the Golan Heights, while a third fell short inside Syria. Tel Aviv is yet to respond to the daring attack. In previous cases, the Israeli military struck targets in Syria within a few hours.

This was the second attack to hit northern Israel since the outbreak of the battle in Gaza on May 10. On May 13, three rockets were fired from southern Lebanon. The rockets fell off the coast of Israel. The Israeli military didn’t respond.

The attack on al-Golan Height was likely carried out by Iranian-backed forces, which are active in southern Syria. Many Palestinians fight in the rank of these forces.
