On June 20, heavy clashes erupted between militants of the Hamza Division and the Sultan Murad Division in the Turkish-occupied city of al-Bab in northern Aleppo.
Step News, a pro-opposition outlet, said that a financial disagreement between two merchants caused the clashes, which lasted for several hours.
“The clashes and the tension between the two sides began around 4:00 PM, sporadic clashes are still ongoing,” a local source told Step News.
According to local sources, a militant was killed and at least five others from the Hamza Division and the Sultan Murad Division were injured in the clashes. Both groups are a part of the Turkish-backed National Syrian Army (NSA) that was formed in late 2017.
Prominent local figures and the Turkish-backed Police force intervened to end the clashes. An initial agreement was reportedly reached. However, al-Bab is still witnessing sporadic clashes.
Such clashes have became usual in the Turkish-occupied areas in northern Syria. The Turkish military is yet to take any action to improve the security situation in these areas, likely to avoid any conflict with its Syrian proxies, which are known for their criminal activities.
