Russia’s state technology corporation Rostec announced on July 3 that its subsidiary, the High Precision Systems Holding Company, has began delivering the SC 226 and SC 228 “Mnogotochie” multi-bullet rounds specifically designed to take down drones.

The the new ammunition, unveiled earlier this year, was designed to significantly boosts the effectiveness of standard small arms fire against small drones. The 5.45×39 mm caliber CT 226 and 7.62×54 mm caliber CT 228 cartridges contain a three-element bullet that disintegrates in flight.

“Production has already begun. Serial production is underway. The first experimental batch is already in the military,” the High Precision Systems Holding Company said in a statement published by Rostec.

During a demonstration organized by Rsotec as part of its “Our Crash” engineering project, prominent Russian journalist Alexey Egorov, who is an armature shooter, downed a first-person view (FPV) quadcopter with the first shot from an assault rifle loaded with Mnogotochie ammunition.

Three elements from cartridge pierced a soda bottle attached to the drone, the blade of one of the engines, and its FPV camera.

One of the engineers who developed the Mnogotochiye cartridge revealed in separate statement published by Rostec that the ammunition can take down enemy drones at a range of up to 300 meters, depending on the caliber.

“As compared to shotgun rounds, we have operational ranges of 100-150 [meters], depending on the caliber. The range for the 7.62 [mm caliber] is up to 300 [meters],” the engineer said.

“Each bullet element [of the cartridge] rotates like a whirl, making it quite difficult for it to deviate from its trajectory,” they added.

As Kiev forces expanded the use of small drones, especially FPV suicide quadcopters, in the special military operation zone over the past year, Russian troops began to use assault rifles and shotguns as a last line of defense. Specialized ammunition like the Mnogotochie will give the troops a much better chance of taking down such drones.
