Russia Hits Ukraine’s Drone Makers And Advances On Slavyansk

Support SouthFront

Russia is sending an unmistakable message to the international community: it is prepared to escalate, and it will do so on its own terms. On July 24, Russian forces carried out a precision long-range strike on a facility in the Kyiv suburbs where an exhibition of Ukrainian and foreign-made drones — including next-generation systems used to strike civilian targets inside Russia — was underway. Present at the time were leading UAV developers and manufacturers, senior commanders of Ukraine’s drone forces, and representatives of the intelligence services directly responsible for planning and executing strikes on Russian territory.

On the night of July 27, Russia carried out a complex strike against targets across Ukraine. Defense industry facilities in Kyiv were reportedly hit, along with port infrastructure in Chernomorsk, Odessa Region, allegedly used for delivering and storing military cargo. Ballistic missiles remain the backbone of Russia’s long-range strike arsenal.

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting along several front-line sectors at once. In Sumy Region, assault units of Russia’s 116th Regiment have pushed to the outskirts of Mala Slobidka, south of Bachevsk. There is no indication that pressure on this sector will ease anytime soon.

In Kharkiv Region, Russian advance units reached Verivka in the Volchansk district on July 25. The picture here is stark: this stretch of the Ukrainian front is coming apart at the seams. Facing catastrophic losses, Ukrainian command has been forced to redeploy units of the 24th Mechanized Brigade — filled with mobilized conscripts from 2026 — from rear areas into the breach.

Further south, on the Slavyansk axis, the momentum that carried Russian forces through Kostiantinovka has not slowed. Assault groups are already pushing into Osykove. On the northern flank of this sector, the situation is equally grim. Ukrainian sources confirmed that on July 24, Russian reconnaissance and sabotage units entered the outskirts of Mykolaivka, near Slavyansk. The strategic significance of this move is hard to overstate: Mykolaivka is home to the Slavyansk Thermal Power Plant, a heavily fortified strongpoint and one of the most important defensive anchors in this part of the front. From its perimeter to the first streets of Slavyansk is just four and a half kilometers.

Russia is not improvising — it is executing. From precision strikes on drone developers in Kyiv to infantry pushing the outskirts of Slavyansk, Moscow is methodically dismantling Ukraine’s ability to fight on every level at once. At this rate, the question is no longer whether the front will hold, but how much of it will be left by autumn.
