Russian drone manufacturer Roboavia has unveiled the Klin, a combat-proven loitering munition that was designed for tactical missions.
Photos showing the new loitering munition with a placard listing its core specifications and mission profile at an exhibition somewhere in Russia surfaced online on October 11.
The Klin has a takeoff weight of 13.5 kilograms, with a 1920 mm wingspan and 1600 mm length, according to the Robaoavia, which also states that the loitering munition has an endurance of up to 80 minutes, communication range of 120 kilometers, a maximum altitude of 2,000 meters and a speed of speeds of 108 to 300 kilometers per hour.

In addition, the company says that the Klin, which is equipped with an electro-optical system, is capable of autonomous targeting, has artificial intelligence functions, and can operate in environments where satellite navigation signals may be degraded or jammed.

The loitering munition can carry a warhead weighing as much as 5 kilograms. Robaoavia showcased three types of warheads: shaped charge, airburst explosive, and high-explosive fragmentation.

Notably, the Klin has been already tested in real combat conditions. A video from June shows one such loitering munition taking out a Ukrainian drone boat in the Black Sea.
The munition used its autonomous targeting function to lock on the boat, and was reportedly armed with an airburst explosive warhead.
According to Robaoavia, the Klin was not designed to engage naval and ground targets only, but also to track drones. This capability and the higher speed profile of the loitering munition suggests that it can be used as an interceptor.
The Klin was likely developed to fill the gap between the Lancet loitering munition, which typically has a range of 25 to 40 kilometers, and larger Geran-type suicide drones that have a range from 900 all the way up to 2,500 kilometers.
It is unclear if there are plans to mass produce the Klin. The loitering munition would for sure enhance the Russian military’s ability to attack high-value targets, like radars, air defense, howitzers and rocket launchers, deployed a bit far behind the front line.

that is why we are on a runaway path to global war. none of that can end well for the western empire, because you cannot solve a problem if you are in denial of its causes. in their quest to lower their opponents, they not only failed at the step of bringing down russia, but it completely backfired and made their situation even worse. still they can’t bring themselves to accept reality, discussion of which is being actively forbidden/disrupted, so doubling down it is.
