Russian developers showcased several promising drone interceptors, including one designed to deal with drone boats, at the Archipelago 2025 forum in Moscow, which opened its doors on August 7.

The most notable interceptors showcased were the Skvorets-PVO, Bolt and Kinzhal, which was unveiled for the first time earlier in the year.

The Skvorets-PVO is equipped with an advanced artificial intelligence-based target acquisition system and reaches speeds of up to 270 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, the slightly larger Bolt features a more elaborate guidance system that allows the interceptor to receive updates on target coordinates from a ground-based radar.

The Kinzhal is the fastest of the interceptors showcased at the forum with the ability to fly at up to 300 kilometers per hour.

Also during the forum, a unique interceptor, dubbed Krestnik-M, designed specifically to engage drone boats, was unveiled for the first time. The Krestnik-M can be launched from naval, ground or aerial platforms. Its specifications were not revealed, however.

Interceptor drones are a much cheaper alternative to anti-aircraft missiles, which are also more complex to manufacture and operate.

In recent months, the Russian military expanded the use of interceptors in the special military operation zone, shooting down hundreds and possibly thousands of Ukrainian drones. The development of these systems is ongoing with full force, as evidenced by the interceptors showcased at Archipelago 2025.

Russia will likely end up integrating these systems into its multi-layered air defense network, reinforcing short-range capabilities against drones.
