On August 22, Russia unveiled for the first time ever the Izdeliye 305E missile which was especially developed for upgraded Russian combat helicopters.

The new non-line-of-sight (NLOS) precision-guided missile was showcased to the public at the High Precision Weapons stand in the International Military-Technical Forum Army-2021.

The Izdeliye 305E was developed by the Kolomna Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (KBM), a subsidiary of the Rostec State Corporation. According to previous reports, the missile is equipped with an inertial navigation system, an optical thermal imaging homing seeker and a two-way secured data link.

The export version of the missile will have a range of 14,5 km. However, the Russian military’s version, the Izdeliye 305, will have a range of 25 km. Some sources even listed the range of the domestic version as long as 100 km.

The missile weights 105 kg only, with a high-explosive fragmentation warhead weighing 25 kg. The newest Mi-28NM and Ka-52M combat helicopters will be equipped with missile.

Russia has reportedly test-fired the Izdeliye 305 in Syria. In March of 2019, an Mi-28NM attack helicopter armed with the missile targeted militants’ positions and equipment in the northern Hama countryside.

The new missile will enable Russian attack helicopters to strike high-value targets, such as air-defense systems, from a stand-off range with high precision. It remains unclear if the missile will be integrated in the future on Russian fixed-wing warplanes.
