Abu Omar Dabah al-Dik a senior military commander in the Sham Legion was killed on July 18 in a Russian airstrike on the Kurd Mountains in the northern Lattakia countryside.
Pro-opposition activists revealed that the same airstrike claimed the lives of three other personnel of the Sham Legion.
Abu Omar was reportedly the Sham Legion’s general military commander in the coastal region. In 2018, he survived an assassination attempt with an improvised-explosive device (IED) in northern Lattakia.
The Sham Legion is one of the National Front for Liberation (NFL) coalition key members. The coalition was formed in mid-2018 with direct support from Turkey.
The elimination of Abu Omar is a major blow for the NFL, which is activity supporting Haya’t Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other terrorist groups in Greater Idlib.
