On November 19, the Russian military advanced inside the city of Siversk as Ukrainian defenses to the north in Donetsk began to collapse.
The Yug [South] Group of Forces, which stormed Siversk earlier in the week, is reported to have reached the city’s center from the eastern direction. Additional gains by Russian troops were reported in the southern part of the city. Furthermore, most of the city’s eastern and southern outskirts have been cleared.
The entire eastern part of Siversk will likely be cleared from Kiev forces within a few days. Meanwhile, Ukrainian defenses to the north of the city have begun to collapse.
Across the Siverskyi Donets River from Dronivka and Platonivka, the Yug Group of Forces secured a large area, approaching Yampil from the south.
Russian troops also advanced to the north and east of Yampil, moving closer to the road linking Siversk with the city of Krasny Liman.
It’s worth noting that the Yug Group of Forces is already fighting inside Yampil. However, Kiev forces have been holding onto their remaining positions in the center and western parts of the key settlement with everything they have. The capture of the settlement would be catastrophic for Ukrainian troops in both Siversk and Krasny Liman.
In addition to the advance in Siversk and the area to the north of the city, the Yug Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces in other directions of Donetsk in the last 24 hours, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The ministry said in its daily briefing that the group struck Ukranian formations near Nikolayevka, Slavyansk, Druzhkovka, Zakotnoye, Platonovka, Konstantinovka, Dibrova, and Rai-Aleksandrovka.
“The enemy lost up to 195 troops, one tank, 24 motor vehicles, and one artillery gun,” the ministry added. “Four electronic warfare stations, three ammunition depots, and four fuel depots were neutralized.”
The current collapse in Siversk is not surprising. Ukraine has already allocated much of its limited resources to the defense of the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk and the city of Kupyansk in Khakriv. This attempt to avoid a defeat at all costs backfired very badly.
Kiev is now about to lose both Pokrovsk and Kupyansk, in addition to Siversk. In the next few weeks, a similar collapse is expected in Krasny Liman and the city Kostiantynivka in Donetsk, as well as in the city of Huliapole in Zaporizhzhia.
