On January 30, the Russian military captured two settlements in different directions in Zaporizhzhia, approaching two of the main supply routes leading to the key city of Orikhiv.

The Vostok [East] Group of Forces advanced to the west of the Haichur River, also known as the Gaychur, and captured Ternovatoye, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, which noted that the attack on the settlement was led by the 29th Combined Arms Army’s 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade.

“As a result of active combat operations, servicemen from Transbaikal took control over an important area of enemy defenses on the west bank of the Gaychur River up to 5 kilometers deep and an area of more than 20 square kilometers. More than 580 buildings were mopped up,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that Kiev forces lost a large number of troops, in addition to 20 military vehicles and around 50 drones while attempting to hold onto Ternovatoye.

After capturing the settlement, the Vostok Group of Forces eliminated a small group of Ukrainian troops from the 110th Motor Rifle Brigade who attempted to carry out a flag-planting operation in a nearby area. The entire group was wiped out by drones units.

The capture of Ternovatoye brought the Vostok Group of Forces closer to the T-0408 highway, which links Orikhiv with Novomykolaivka. In fact, the group’s drone unit can already target the highway, which is located just 15 kilometers away from the settlement.

Meanwhile in the Stepnohirsk direction, to the west of Orikhiv, the Dnepr Group of Forces captured Rechnoye from Kiev forces.

Russian troops stormed the settlement, which is located to the north of Stepnohirsk on the Konka River, from Prymorske to the west. The capture of the settlement put the troops just under 14 kilometers away from the N-08 highway, which links Orikhiv with the city of Zaporizhzhia. The group’s drone units could target any movement on the highway from there.

While recent gains to the east and west of Orikhiv have not completely severed the two main highways leading to the city, Ukraine will certainly face more problems supplying its troops there from now on.

Kiev forces brought large reinforcements to Zaporizhzhia in recent weeks. The weather also worsened. Still, the advance of the Russian military in all directions in the region appears to be gaining momentum once again. The battle for Orikhiv will likely begin next spring.
