The Russian military has completely captured the city of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced late on July 3.
Peskov told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin was briefed on the development during a visit to an auxiliary command post alongside top military commanders and Defense Ministry officials.
“Konstantinovka has been taken under full control. According to the president, it is the first, but very important, stage in the seizing of the entire important Slavyansk-Kramatorsk stronghold,” the spokesman stated.
“The city was turned into a fortified area that appeared virtually impregnable to the Kiev regime, but thanks to the heroism of our military, it has now been completely liberated,” he added.
Following the announcement, the Russian Defense Ministry released a video featuring highlights from the battle for the city of Konstantinovka.
Several other videos released by the ministry show Russian soldiers unfurling the country’s flags at positions they had captured inside the city.
Describing the importance of Konstantinovka during the meeting attended by Putin, Chief of General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov said that the city is “one of the main hubs of the enemy’s defense bordering in Slavyansk-Kramatorsk-Konstantinovka fortified area.”
The Russian victory in Konstantinovka could indeed lead to the rapid collapse of Ukrainian defenses near both Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.
The Ukrainian defeat in the city, which came down very fast, also indicate that the shortage in personnel in Kiev forces is worsening.
