The Russian military has renewed offensive operations in the direction of Sumy, capturing a key settlement from Kiev forces.
On September 26, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Sever [North] Group of Forces had “liberated” Yunakivka, which is located less than 25 kilometers to the northeast from the city of Sumy.
During the Ukrainian offensive from Sumy into the neighboring Russian region of Kursk last year, Yunakivka served as the main logistical hub for Kiev forces. Its capture by Russian troops will complicate Ukrainian logistics in this direction as a whole.
By capturing the settlement, the Russian military has very much isolated Kiev forces in Sadky, which is located right to the south.
The large forest that lies between Sadky and Sumy city grants a defensive advantage for Kiev forces. However, it could also offer the Sever Group of Forces, especially Reconnaissance units, a chance to reach the eastern outskirts of the city undetected.
In a briefing, the Russian MoD said that the Sever Group of Forces inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces in the week leading to the capture of Yunakivka. According to the ministry, “five mechanized brigades, one motorized infantry brigade, one jaeger brigade, two air assault brigades, two assault regiments of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine), and one territorial defense brigade” were defeated in Sumy from September 20 to 26.
“Up to 1,250 troops, three tanks, four armored fighting vehicles, 62 motor vehicles, and 15 field artillery guns have been neutralized in the area of responsibility of the Sever Group of Forces,” the ministry said.
“Nine electronic warfare and counter-fire stations and 29 ammunition and materiel depots were neutralized,” it added.
Videos from recent days indicate that the drone units of the Sever Group of Forces played a key role in recent operations in Sumy, taking out Ukrainian troops, equipment and positions.
The Russian offensive in Sumy has pushed Kiev forces away from Kursk, and disturbed their plans. However, Ukraine continues to deploy some of its best units, including ones armed with Western-made main battle tanks, in addition to foreign mercenaries in this direction. This may be a sign that the Kiev regime is planning a large-scale counteroffensive. It is highly-unlikely that such an operation would succeed due to several factors, including the presence of experienced Russian drone units in Sumy. A failed counterattack could have catastrophic consequences on Ukrainian defense lines in this direction.

chemistry and mathematics to hundreds of students under the pretext of applying a “similarity penalty.”
according to sohr sources, more than a hundred women and students gathered outside the ministry building yesterday, demanding to meet with the minister of education, where they considered the decision as “unjust” and was “based on false accusations,” especially since the chemistry exam was conducted electronically, which makes textual identicality between answers impossible
sohr sources also reported that security forces intervened to disperse the gathering. however, the mothers and students continued their protest for nearly three hours, before the phones of some of them were confiscated and they were forced to delete video recordings documenting the incident.
as tension grew and with insistence by the mothers and students, the minister of education met with several mothers, before the “similarity penalty” decision was revoked,
