Russian Army Is Squeezing Ukrainian Troops Out Of Pokrovsk (Videos)

On November 12, the Russian military captured a settlement near Pokrovsk in Donetsk, mounting more pressure on remaining Ukrainian troops in the city and nearby areas.

The capture of Sukhoy Yar was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense, which said in a brief statement that the Tsentr [Center] Group of Forces “completed mopping up Ukrainian militants” in the settlement, which is located right to the south of Pokrovsk.

Later in its daily briefing, the ministry said that the 2nd Army of the Tsentr Group of Forces “engaged in resolute offensive actions” in the western part of Pokrovsk, as well as in the northwestern and eastern neighbourhoods of the Tsentralny district, and in the western industrial area.

The group also repelled nine attacks by Ukraine’s 32nd Mechanised Brigade and 425th Skala Assault Regiment near Grishino, according to the ministry.

“17 units of armored hardware and up to 40 troops were eliminated,” it said.

Meanwhile Dimitrov, more known as Myrnohrad, to the east of Pokrovsk, the ministry said that the 5th Motorised Rifle Brigade of the 51st Army, also a part of the Tsentr Group of Forces, advanced in the Vostochny neighborhood, in the southern part of the settlement, and towards the Zapadny neighborhood.

“In Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) direction, over the past 24 hours, the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) losses amounted to more than 250 troops, 22 units of weaponry and armored hardware, including 12 armored fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles,” it added.

To the north of Pokrovsk, a series of counterattacks carried out by Kiev forces in Rodynske and nearby areas over the last few days have largely failed.

All in all, most of Pokrovsk is already in the hands of the Russian military and remaining Ukranian troops in Myrnohrad are about to be besieged.

Ukraine has missed the mark for an organized withdrawal from this direction. Many of its troops will end up getting killed or captured. Dozens surrendered in recent days, especially in Myrnohrad. The battle in Pokrovsk has created shortages and logistical problems that weakened Ukrainian defenses not only in Donetsk, but also in Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and even in Kharkiv.
