Russian Army Launched New Offensive in Sumy Region

Russian troops continue to expand their security zone in the Sumy region, launching a fresh offensive that threatens to reshape the frontline in northeastern Ukraine. Over the past several days, Russian units have completed the mop up operations in the border forests on the Russian territory, secured the liberation of the village of Alexandriya in Ukraine, and advanced toward the vital Ukrainian stronghold in the town of Miropolye, where fierce fighting is now underway on the outskirts.

The offensive has seen Russian forces push into the Sumy region along a new axis between the Kursk village of Gornyal and Ukrainian settlement of Alexandria, near the Psiol and Udava rivers. This advance has allowed Russian troops to consolidate control over border areas up to Miropolye, a critical logistics hub previously used by Ukrainian forces for operations in Russia’s Sudzha district in Kursk region.

According to preliminary field reports, the village of Alexandria came under Russian control and battles are already ongoing on the outskirts of Miropolye.

The situation for Ukrainian forces is becoming increasingly precarious. Russian troops have established a sizable foothold northwest of Miropolye, bringing them within 16-17 kilometers of the regional capital, Sumy. Simultaneously, Russian units southeast of the town have secured positions near Miropolske, raising the threat of a potential pincer movement that could cut off Ukrainian forces in the area. The natural barrier of local rivers further complicates Kyiv’s ability to reinforce or withdraw its troops, leaving them vulnerable to encirclement.

Ukrainian commanders are panicking over the threat that Russian forces may soon establish full control over a pocket stretching from Gornyal (Kursk region) to Miropolye (Sumy region) and Milayevka (Kursk region), with the Psiol River serving as a provisional demarcation line. Despite frantic efforts to redeploy additional Ukrainian units and territorial defense forces to the area, Russian reconnaissance and precision strikes have systematically dismantled these reinforcements.

The footage from the battlefield shows UAV operators from Russia’s 34th Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade tracking and destroying a U.S.-made M-113 armored personnel carrier transporting Ukrainian assault troops near Miropolye. In another incident, an FPV drone strike eliminated a Ukrainian sabotage group attempting to reach their positions in Miropolye via buggy.

Meanwhile to the north, urban combat continues in Yunakovka, where Ukrainian defenses have weakened following the withdrawal of elite units to the Dnepropetrovsk direction. Russian airborne troops have already seized Yablonovka (Chervonoprapornoye), cutting off the R-200 highway—a key supply route for Ukrainian forces in Yunakovka—and securing dominant heights near Khrapovshchina. Fighting has now shifted to the southern part of Yunakovka, with Russian forces making steady gains.

Nearby, clashes rage near the village of Sadki, while Ukrainian forces launch desperate counterattacks in the Novonikolayevka–Alekseyevka–Varachino sector. Russian troops are also pressing south of Andreyevka toward Pisarevka and engaging in intense combat near Kondratovka. Russian assault units have reportedly entered Malaya Korchakovka and are battling for control of the village.

To the west, Ukrainian forces continue suffering heavy losses in futile attacks near Tyotkino, a sector Ukrainian resources have grimly dubbed “Tyotkino’s Meat Grinder.” Despite logistical challenges, Russian forces maintain control over the border.

As Russian advances accelerate, the Ukrainian military faces the grim prospect of losing a significant portion of northeastern Sumy region. With supply lines collapsing and reinforcements intercepted, Kyiv’s defensive efforts appear increasingly unsustainable, signaling a potential turning point in this sector of the front.

what is funny is that the stated (not often) goal of the ukrainian operation from the us pov was to weaken russia. now the us is withdrawing and europe is screaming murder because it finds russia menacing. the usual complete victory of the west.
