The Russian military has received the first batch of Ka-52M reconnaissance and attack helicopters, TASS reported on January 4, citing a source in the Russian military industrial complex.

The unnamed source told the Russian news agency that around ten helicopters have been already supplied to the military and more will be delivered later this year.

“The first Ka-52M [helicopters] have already been turned over to Russian troops. Deliveries of upgraded helicopters will also continue in 2023,” the source said.

According to the source, the Arsenyevsky aviation plant is currently working with full force on the production of Ka-52M helicopters.

The Ka-52M is a deeply upgraded version of the Ka-52 helicopter. The upgraded helicopter is equipped with an improved day\night capable optical targeting system, a new phased array radar, a new active protection system, a new battlefield command and control system, a stronger undercarriage wheels and an improved cockpit ergonomics.

The helicopter will be armed with the new LMUR [light multipurpose guided missile], which is optically guided and has a range of more than 14 kilometers.

The Russian military has already tested the Ka-52M in Ukraine, where it has been conducting a special operation since February of last year.

The Ka-52M will boost the aerial reconnaissance and attack capabilities of the Russian military. The new helicopters will likely end up joining the special military operation in Ukraine, where their advanced features are needed.
