Russian Army Strikes Crossings On Siverskyi Donets River As It Approaches Krasny Liman (Videos)

On October 23, the Russian military approached the key city of Krasny Liman in the Donetsk direction, and struck several Ukrainian crossings on the nearby Siverskyi Donets River.

To the northeast of Krasny Liman, the Yug [South] Group of Forces reached Stavky. Fierce fighting with Kiev forces is now reportedly taking place inside the settlement. Russian troops also advanced towards the city from the east, capturing a large swath of land to the west of Zarichne in recent days.

“The Russian Armed Forces have straightened the engagement line and improved their tactical position in the Stavky-Kirovsk sector of the Krasny Liman direction in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Ukrainian militants continue holding on to the strategic heights near Stavky despite casualties,” military expert Andrey Marochko told TASS.

He noted that the successes achieved by Russian troops in the battles west of Stavky “have considerably complicated” the tactical situation for Kiev forces in that area.

In addition, the troops are reportedly advancing in the depth of the forest lying between the southern entrance of Krasny Liman and Yampil to the southeast, mainly along the railroad.

The Yug Group of Forces also expanded its control to north of Krasny Liman recently, capturing territories to the south of Derylove, and breaking through Ukrainian defenses in the southern part of Novoselivka.

From Derylove, Russian troops could soon storm Drobysheve, the last settlement before the northern entrance of Krasny Liman. And once Novoselivka is secured, an attack on Yarova which is located on a key road leading to the city, will be possible.

It’s worth noting that Ukrainian troops are already experiencing serious logistical difficulties as a result of repeated Russian strikes on crossing across the Siverskyi Donets River.

A robust crossing that was recently built near the main bridge of Raigorodok was recently destroyed by a series of airstrikes. An engineering vehicle that was taking part in the construction of a smalling crossing near the same settlement was also hit by a drone.

All in all, the Yug Group of Forces will likely work to secure Stavky before attempting to storm Liman from the northeast or east. It is also possible that the group will break through Ukrainian defenses in the forest northeast of Yampil and storm the city from the south. Once the battle in the city begins, Kiev troops will likely abandon many of their remaining positions to the east of it.
