On September 9, official sources of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic confirmed control of the town of Krasnogorovka, which was turned into a large stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the southwestern outskirts of the Donetsk urban agglomeration.
Various Russian military sources from the battlefield confirmed Russian control of Krasnogorovka. According to the official report, Russian forces completely liberated and completed the mop up operations in the settlement of Krasnogorovka “thanks to well-coordinated work, professional command and a high level of dedication of the personnel of the “Southern” group of troops, in particular, forces of the 5th and 110th motorized rifle brigades.”
As a result of heavy battles in July and August, the Russian army rapidly advanced in the town and took control of the largest part of the settlement, including the industrial zone in the south and the residential areas.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine retreated across the river on the northwestern outskirts but they failed to hold the defense of the last strongholds for a long time.
Positions of the remaining Ukrainian forces on the northwestern outskirts of Krasnogorovka were threatened by the encirclement from the north amid the rapid Russian offensive south of the Karlov water reservoir. The entire Ukrainian front is collapsing in Donbass. Ukrainian forces are retreating from large areas in different directions, losing one stronghold after another, threatening new poorly equipped positions.
