Russian Breakthrough In Zaporizhzhia: Ukraine Loses Pishchane

In the Zaporizhzhia sector, Russian troops crossed the Haichur River, seized Pishchane, and established a stable bridgehead. In the Siversk sector, the main effort is focused on clearing the heights to the west of Siversk and fighting for Zakotne and Ilyichivka. Ukrainian and American negotiators offered an optimistic assessment of the talks in Berlin.

Zaporizhzhia Sector

Russian units are advancing on Zaporizhzhia from the south and east. The distance between the forward groups on these flanks is approximately 60 kilometers.

In the southern sector, in the Prymorske area, Russian assault groups advanced along Vostochna Street. They took control of the Prymorska Polyclinic building and the adjacent district. They also advanced along a ravine east of the cemetery toward the M-18 highway. In Stepnohirsk, the liquidation and clearing of the encircled Ukrainian garrison in the central part of the settlement is ongoing. North of Stepnohirsk, units advanced 600 meters through tree lines toward Veselianka, which is located east of the M-18 highway. Further east, Russian units are fighting to push Ukrainian formations from strong points on the approaches to Lukianivske from the southwest, in the area of the ponds.

In the eastern sector, Russian units successfully crossed the Haichur River at a third location. As a result, the major defense hub of Pishchane was taken under control. A strongpoint northwest of Pishchane was also seized, enabling the establishment of a stable bridgehead. Fighting continues in Andriivka, with the southern part now under control. The offensive is advancing toward Herasymivka. Capturing it would open a path to Bratske and the rear of a significant Ukrainian stronghold on the left bank of the Haichur, west of Andriivka. Both sides have been active on the approaches to Zarechne, which is located west of Nechaivka.

In Huliaipole, Russian units broke through the defenses in the city center and are fighting in the «Zapovit» and «Prapor» districts. Positions near Vyshneva and Polohovsky Shlyakh streets have practically split the city in two. There is ongoing fighting for strong points on the southern outskirts of the eastern half of the city. In the central part of the city, clashes are ongoing around the central district hospital, the local house of culture, and on Spartak and Shevchenko Streets. In the northern part of the city, assault groups are advancing along May 1 Street. The main resistance is in the southwestern part of the city, from the Zaliznychny entrance, and relies on a network of strong points on the outskirts. There is also heavy resistance in the area of the «Silmash» plant in the center. Aviation is systematically targeting positions in Huliaipole. The Ukrainian command’s attempts to maneuver reserves are being intercepted by drone strikes, which have hit armored vehicles and transport.

Sumy Sector

In the Sumy region, Russian assault units advanced up to 600 meters deeper into the oblast on seven fronts. Russian aviation and artillery are precisely targeting Ukrainian positions. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian command is transferring new reserves, including the recently formed 160th Motorized Rifle Brigade, whose personnel were trained in Poland.

Kharkiv Sector

In the Kharkiv sector, units are accelerating their advance in several offensive sectors.

In Vilcha, over ten residential properties were captured, and the advance reached 400 meters. In the forest to the west of Liman, three positions were captured and a counterattack was repelled. An assault group was destroyed during the firefight. The new command in this sector has been tasked with intensifying operations under threat of removal; part of the personnel from another brigade have been transferred to assist them. In Vovchanski Khutora, units advanced 250 meters and captured nine residential properties. Clearing operations are underway. In the Melovoye-Khatneye sector, assault groups advanced three kilometers, reaching a total advance of 550 meters. A deployment point in the Velykyi Burluk area was hit by drones strikes.

Siversk Sector

Russian assault groups continue to clear the area west of Siversk and advance on the flanks. Ukrainian units were dislodged from a fortified position at Point 170.2 in the gypsum quarry area. This position had been fortified since 2022. Due to actions by drone operators, Ukrainian fighters were left without supply via the last route and opted to withdraw.

Russian units cleared a Ukrainian strongpoint on the hill north of Sviato-Pokrovske and are fighting to seize the hill (165.7). They also reached hill 176.6. In Sviato-Pokrovske, Russian units advanced through the center and the southern part to the west, capturing the school area. Fighting continues in the northern and western parts of the settlement. Control was established over a sector of terrain north of the road, as well as a section of the road between Siversk and Platonivka.

Heavy fighting for Zakotne continues. Russian units are clearing the territory between Platonivka and Yampil, which is located north of the Siverskyi Donets River. They also established control over the territory between Siversk and Dronivka. There is ongoing fighting for Ozerne in the western and northeastern parts. Russian assault groups now control most of Dibrova (the northern part completely). They are advancing towards Kaleniky and Rai-Alexandrovka, which are northwest of Pazeno. There is a possibility that units will enter Mykolaivka in the near future.

Pokrovsk Sector

In the Pokrovsk sector, the main effort is focused on finishing the operation in Myrnohrad. Russian assault units are tightening the ring around the military group in the city. West of Pokrovsk, the air force is striking identified positions in the Hrishyne area with heavy bombs, destroying strongpoints and resistance nodes.

Northwest of Sofiivka, intense fighting continues. FPV drone crews are playing a significant role by delivering precise strikes against transport and personnel, which complicates the transfer of reserves. In the Novopavlivka area, units are advancing from the south, north, and northwest, which allows for sequential expansion of the control zone and prevents the Ukrainian command from maneuvering.

In the Myrnohrad area, radio intercepts captured negotiations with encircled servicemen in which they requested help. The command only ordered them to hold out and fortify their positions.

Conclusion

The operational situation on the main sectors is characterized by key tactical breakthroughs and the transition to new stages of the offensive. The most significant development is in the Zaporizhzhia sector, where successfully crossing the Haichur River and seizing Pishchane created a major bridgehead. This success, coupled with the ongoing assault on Huliaipole—where units have breached the defense in the center and are splitting the city—poses a direct threat to the entire defense system in the region. It also opens the way for further advancement deeper into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and toward isolating the Zaporizhzhia grouping.

In the Siversk sector, the operation has entered a phase of consolidating success and expanding the breakthrough. After securing Siversk, the focus shifted to clearing key heights (170.2, 165.7, and 176.6) and settlements (Zakotne, Ilyichivka, and Sviato-Pokrovske) near the Kramatorsk-Sloviansk agglomeration. Attacking from several directions simultaneously effectively fragments the Ukrainian defense. In the Pokrovsk sector, the operation to encircle the Myrnohrad grouping is nearing completion. The focus has shifted to suppressing resistance nodes (Hrishyne) and repelling possible de-blocking attempts.

The tactic of methodical, constant pressure continues on the Kharkiv and Sumy sectors. In the Kharkiv sector, the effective combination of assault actions, artillery, and drones enabled advancement in Vilcha and the forest west of Liman. It also allowed for the successful repelling of counterattacks and the infliction of significant losses on Ukrainian units. In the Sumy sector, systematic advancement along tree lines continues despite Ukrainian command attempts to transfer new reserves.

The overall strategy is a coordinated offensive on several axes. Decisive successes in some areas (Zaporizhzhia and Siversk) create conditions for advancing in others. Continuous pressure on remaining sectors of the front prevents Ukrainian forces from regrouping.

As the military situation develops, diplomatic activity has reached a critical point. Ukrainian and American negotiators offered an optimistic evaluation of the two-day talks in Berlin. Rustem Umerov, head of the Office of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, cited «real progress», and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy characterized the talks as «very constructive». According to an American representative, consensus was reached on approximately 90% of the issues, and both sides expressed hope of reaching an agreement by the end of the day. Security guarantees for Ukraine were at the center of the discussions, with measures similar to NATO’s collective defense clause being discussed. The territorial issue was also addressed, with the U.S. reportedly supporting the demand to withdraw forces from areas in eastern Donetsk Oblast that have remained under Ukrainian control since 2014. Previously, Zelenskyy had repeatedly rejected this demand, insisting on a ceasefire along the current front line. The progress achieved and the plans for further meetings in the U.S. this weekend, possibly in Miami, indicate that the peace process is entering an intensive final phase directly linked to the operational dynamics on the front lines.
