On November 22, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova revealed that the US-led coalition is still training militants in its base in the area of al-Tanaf in southeastern Syria.

“Under the excuse of fighting against the ISIS and in order to contain Iran, a big US military base was set up there – in a strategically important area adjacent to the borders of Syria, Iraq and Jordan, which is close to the highway connecting Baghdad and Damascus. And there, according to numerous witness accounts, militant training is underway,” the Russian diplomat said during a press briefing, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The US-backed Revolutionary Commando Army responded to Zakharova’s remarks by claiming that the US-led coalition is only training its fighters in order to keep ISIS away from al-Tanaf.

“We are the coalition’s only partner in the area of al-Tanaf, and we will continue our mission to ensure that the area remains clear of Daesh [ISIS] terrorists,” the Revolutionary Commando Army said on its official twitter account.

This was not the first time the US-led coalition was accused of training and arming militants in al-Tanaf. Earlier this month, a fighter of ISIS, who had been captured by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), revealed that the terrorist group’s cells in the al-Safa area, south of al-Tanaf, received weapons from the coalition’s proxies.
